Every child takes part in a minimum of 2 hours physical education each week; we aim to inspire every child to enjoy physical activity and to find a sport or activity which they really enjoy.
For the infant classes, children learn basic skills and begin to apply these in competitive and non-competitive games:
New Age Kurling
The junior classes have a shared games afternoon in which they take part in a variety of sports, often with visiting coaches:
- tag rugby
Competitions and Tournaments
The children at Hawkesbury CE VC Primary School have many opportunities to take part in competitions and tournaments in a huge range of sports. We work with local primary and secondary schools to organise ways in which the children can compete against other individuals and teams to enjoy the thrill of competition and apply and develop their sporting skills.
We have recently taken part in:
- Cross country tournaments (4 over a number of months against South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire County schools)
- Football tournament for girls and boys (against small schools in South Gloucestershire)
- Tag rugby tournament
- Cricket festival (schools in the Cotswold cluster)
- Rounders tournament
- District field and track athletics
- football (taught by a football coach)
- Netball Tournaments
Government Sporting Grant 2016 – 2017
During the past 12 months, our school has been awarded the School Games Gold Award. This reflects the school’s commitment to the delivery of high standard sports education to all of our pupils.
The government continues to provide schools with sports premium funding. The allocation is based on the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6. It is used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport, developing or adding to PE and sport activities that our school offers and making improvements that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
