What is the Pupil Premium?
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. Pupil Premium for 2016-2017 is allocated to schools based on pupil numbers in January 2016 that are known to have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any time in the last six years. Each of these pupils will attract funding for the school. Schools will have the freedom to spend the Premium in any way they think will best support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils. The targeted and strategic use of pupil premium will support us in achieving our vision.
